The plant, which will start operating in the second half of 2023, will complement the activity planned by Nervión Naval Offshore in the Outer Port of Ferrol.
NERVION NAVAL OFSHORE (Amper Group), specialised in the manufacture and assembly of fixed and floating structures for offshore wind power, has planned to start up an offshore wind power components plant in As Somozas (A Coruña).
Furthermore, with this operation it is committed to the generation of new industrial opportunities to try to cover part of the expected demand in the field of offshore wind energy and promotes the training of new talent for this sector. Nervión Naval Offshore expects to have the facilities in operation during the second half of 2023.
With more than 35,000 m2 of covered halls, 5,000 m2 of painting halls, office building and 65,000 m2 of land, the opportunities generated for the manufacture of primary and secondary components for fixed (jackets) and floating offshore wind turbine structures are multiplied and result in an industrialisation and modernisation of the serial production of this type of projects. With distances between these facilities in As Somozas and those planned in the Ferrol Outer Port of less than 25 minutes by motorway, they are a perfect complement to this development and reindustrialisation.
The plant will be located in the facilities formerly occupied by Siemens Gamesa in As Somozas. With this agreement to sell the facilities to Nervion Naval Offshore, Siemens Gamesa fulfils the reindustrialisation commitment it made after the factory ceased operations, which consisted mainly of selling the plant to a company with an industrial project that would create jobs in the area. This reindustrialisation programme has been possible thanks to the agreement signed with the trade unions UGT Fica and CCOO Industria.
CBRE, a leading real estate consultancy and services firm, has advised on the purchase and sale of the facilities.
In addition to the reindustrialisation programme, Siemens Gamesa launched an outplacement plan that has so far shown a very positive balance: of the 189 employees who signed up for the plan, 182 have been successfully reemployed, mainly through outplacements in other companies.
LHH, the reindustrialisation and territorial revitalisation consultancy of the Adecco Group contracted by Siemens Gamesa, has been in charge of advising and accompanying the reindustrialisation plan in As Somozas and, as part of this, has carried out the search and identification of the investor that will contribute to the continuity of economic activity and the maintenance and creation of employment. In addition, LHH has also been in charge of the outplacement plan for the workers of the former As Somozas plant.
The achievement of this agreement has also been facilitated and supported by the Xunta de Galicia, through the Vicepresidencia primera e Consellería de Economía, Industria e Innovación.
The new project of Nervión Naval Offshore in As Somozas supposes an important investment for the endowment of this new work centre and the creation of new jobs in a future sector with growth and stability forecast for several decades. This operation, together with those planned by the group in the Port of Ferrol and others under study, positions Nervion Naval Offshore as one of the main players in the manufacture and assembly of offshore wind turbines at national and international level and reinforces the capabilities it can offer to its main clients.
